The Marigold List

Right from the start, The Marigold List is very dark and there are many triggers for anyone sensitive with references to suicide, morbid/cult behavior, self-harm, and strong language. Below is a broken-down summary of The Marigold List in case you are still unsure if you'd be interested in reading the full screenplay.

The opening scene unfolds a horrific suicide that implies there's something more to this story. The script transitions to our protagonist's status quo.

Emily sits with her doctor to review the next best steps for her mental illness. The doctor encourages her to find a broader solution to her treatment, like finding a weekly help group. Emily finds that option unnecessary and continues to navigate her work and social life around her depressive disorder.

After she is unable to control her symptoms, she desperately turns to the Marigold Church for group therapy. Abe and his members give Emily a new sense of belonging - but with a bit of an edge. Emily crafts her very own Marigold List with the help of Abe and another new member, John.

Emily and John begin to fall in love while she continues to feel her happiest with the Marigold members. But, tensions turn sour when John doesn't stay in the help group. As Emily spends more time away from the group to be with John, Abe gives her an ultimatum.

Emily is torn between choosing her new friends at the church or staying with John. The two men accuse one another of being bad, which puts Emily in a spot she'd never anticipate being in.

As clues poor in from the outside, it's too late for Emily to back out of Abe's member-exit process.

A dramatic finale happens between Abe, Emily and John, then concludes with a new hope for potential justice...
